Humidity

We arrived at the Juan Santamaría International Airport last night. The first thing one notices, especially coming from the Mile High City, is the humidity. The skin pores start transpiring and the sweat just stays there, making you feel permanently clammy. Towels, sheets, even the newspaper, feel soggy. The kids will soon notice how their school papers will have this soft, damp feel to them, and how, no matter how hard they dry themselves with the towel, they will still feel a bit moist. The best thing is to air dry for a while and hang the towel in the sun after using it. There is also a product sold in supermarkets called Baldeseca®. These plastic containers have white chemical granules that absorb the air’s moisture. My relatives in Costa Rica place Baldeseca® containers in the closets and replace them monthly when the granules turn into liquid.
