Gripe porcina

Yesterday, the media reported two confirmed cases of swine flu in Costa Rica. One is a young woman in her 20s; the other a man in his 30s. Both had recently travelled to Mexico but don’t know each other. The Health Ministry has asked passengers that shared their flights to get tested immediately. CNE (National Emergency Commission) declared yellow alert. Our kids’ school sent home yesterday two students who were coughing. My mother’s friends wouldn’t greet her with the traditional kiss on the cheek at their weekly canasta game. My sister tells me it’s impossible to find hand sanitizers in San José; everyone bought them like crazy. Some people think the government should cancel all flights from Mexico. State of alert or panic? Tomorrow, we head to San José and will see firsthand.
